CM should take up issues of displaced, terrorism-hit: KPs
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: The joint forum of Kashmiri Pandit (KP) organisations discussed the current
political scenario arising out of Prime Minister’s recent visit to Jammu and
Kashmir.
The forum expressed concern over the statements made by the Chief Minister Omar
Abdullah and his party, the National Conference on issues of Autonomy, Article 370
and national security which have created an unpalatable situation which needs
response from all concerned quarters.
President, Panun Kashmir, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo expressed surprise and dismay at
the ignorance of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah regarding Article 370.
Chrungoo stated, “It was the Instrument of Accession that established the
relationship between Jammu and Kashmir and the Union of India in 1947. Article
370 was incorporated in the Indian Constitution much later and that too as a
‘temporary provision’ in respect of which Pt. Nehru declared that ‘Article 370
would ultimately get eroded in due course of time’. The Jammu and Kashmir State
was always a part of India socially, politically and culturally since times
immemorial and the Instrument of Accession was only a legal and constitutional
requirement which every acceding state had to execute before joining the Union of
India. It is the height of populist politics that the Chief Minister issues a
threatening statement in regard to Article 370 in front of the Prime Minister and
Sonia Gandhi.”
President, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, H.L Chatta criticised the
National Conference for raising the issue of Autonomy coupled with Kashmir centric
demands. “It needs to be put on record that the State of Jammu and Kashmir has
already gone through a black period of history from 1947 to 1953, when there were
no fundamental rights, human rights and other civil liberties available to the
common people. Autonomy is tantamount to putting the clock back and is a
retrogressive measure. It may be recalled that in 1975, after Indira-Abdullah
accord, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah himself got all the laws extended by the Centre
to the State reviewed by a high power committee. The said committee opined that
all laws extended to the State were in the interest of the people. It has become a
habit with the National Conference to raise the bogey of Autonomy at every given
opportunity only to keep the masses in Kashmir in a state of confusion.”
Chairman-ADKPUF, D.N Kissu said that the Chief Minister instead of raising
frivolous issues should have taken up the issues of the victims of terrorism and
the displaced people in the State with the Prime Minister. The inhuman treatment
meted out to the displaced population in Jagti Township is a serious concern which
should have been the priority of the government, he added. The meeting was
attended by R.K Raina, Senior Vice President-ASKPC and Virender Raina, Spokes-
person Joint Forum.
